New York’s Fashion Week

February 22nd, 2012

Designers from all over the world come together twice a year to demonstrate consumers what they have in stores; starting off with New York, London, Milan and last but not least Paris. Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer are the two major season for designers during a year. Now that Winter is almost over, the fashion will change their course and focus more on loss and comfortable clothing for buyers, especially for men.

New York

The first around the world to introduce Fashion Week is the state of New York. Brands such Gucci, Oscar DeLaRenta, Dior, A/X, and many more are known for their glamorous. However, not only women are conquering the runway in the fashion show, men are making their own spotlight in the runway in the New York’s Fashion Week. Brands like Tommy, Gap, are very popular in the men’s perspective.

Sandals?

While everyone is looking at the upper side of a man, he will be looking at his own sandal. Spring/Summer is around the corner, right? With that said, men are preparing to go and have fun at the beach, travel down south and/or just have a great day with their family, spouse or children. A great way men can finally feel comfortable yet presentable with sandals and flip flops.

Sandals such as Dockers, Adidas, Ecco, Reef are not only comfortable but are very fashionable in a sense of the sandal’s stylish ways.

Men sandals is booming in the fashion industry. The fashion has the ability to change its course throughout year, however, sandals, never goes out of style.

Over the past few years, designers have increased the taste in fashion and buyers, men,  have been drawn to the evolution of men’s fashion.

Spring/Summer is around the corner and designers are targeting men this year with the latest fashion. With a simple shirt, pants and shoes and/or sandals can provide men(buyers) a comfortable and appropriate look.

Fashion Industry

Shoes are very popular in the fashion industry; however, most designers, buyers and consumer do not really talk about it. In this case, targeting men’s shoes such as boots, sandals, shoes and dress shoes are not as popular in the fashion industry.

Men are all about comfortable and looking presentable while being in the outdoors. Comfortable shoes such as flip flops, and sandals are a very comfortable and lay back outwear for men in the fashion industry.

Generally speaking, men are seeking to look and feel good by the way they dress. A retailer such as Macy’s can provide the satisfaction that men seek to look great for their partner while still dressing down and wearing sandals or flip flops.

Attractiveness

Fashion is a very complex industry and it can be bias as well. However, men are very much into impressing the opposite sex with their flip flops and/or sandals, presentable yet comfortable.

Urban Style Wedding

February 14th, 2012

If you are getting married and you want to plan a memorable day, an urban style wedding might be an ideal choice. Some couples are more relaxed in urban settings. If you live or work in an urban area, you may be able to find the perfect location for your wedding. Most major cities and metropolitan areas have nearby facilities to accommodate a variety of functions such as weddings, anniversaries and engagement parties.

Venue
The venue that you select is an important feature for an urban style wedding. You may desire certain amenities such as a luxury hotel in the downtown area. Some hotels may have meeting rooms or banquet rooms that offer a view of the skyline. A waterfront view may provide the type of elegance that you are seeking too. Some venue selections could be based on cultural themes or park settings.

Budget
A budget could enable you to plan and to monitor the costs of your wedding. You will need to itemize your anticipated expenses such as the cost of the location, the dress, accessories for the bride, attire for the groom, the cake, the photographer, the disc jockey, catering services and the cake.

Decorating
Decorations play a major part of urban style weddings. Some decorations may be theme-based or displayed to showcase your personal style. You will likely add your personal touches toward the wedding announcements, wedding invites, table settings, color schemes and a variety of other items.

Stationery
A professional wedding planner can provide consultation and ideas toward creating the perfect scenery for your ceremony. Getting the right wedding invites will be the first step – search for wedding stationery in urban design or with famous city sights. You can also look for graffiti wedding invitations or save the dates with an urban tattoo theme. And after the wedding ceremony you can send out custom-printed thank you cards with an image of you in front of let’s say Brooklyn Bridge or in Central Park.

GO NYC!

September 21st, 2011

College has already started and I’m already in my 5th week of classes, heading into midterm season. Although I’m living up the stressful college life here up in California: work, academics, extracurriculars, networking, and of course college football, there are a lot of New York City events that will always lure me back to my hometown, one of them being Broadway and Off-Broadway Week.  Read the rest of this entry »

NYC Fashionista: Summer 2011 Fashion Trends

August 9th, 2011

Summer 2011 Trend: Crop TopsIt’s August – the sun is shining, the beach is calling, and summer is…ending?!??  I realized this over the weekend, and legit haven’t recovered since.  Not only are my days filled with tanning and day drinking severely limited now (…and working at my internship too, I guess), but in two measly weeks, I have to trade in my beach tote for my North Face backpack (tried & true for lugging around 30 pounds of crap…ahem, textbooks), my Missoni bikini for leggings and a hoodie, and drag my ass out of bed in time to walk to class with my friend David Lichtenstein.  It really hit me that this wonderful season is about to come to a close when I went to the mall and instead of displaying bright neon crop tops and too-short skirts, all the stores were rolling out their back-so-school fall lines consisting of sensible sweaters and henleys in depressing hues of gray and dark blue…cry me a river, no joke.

So before we have to ditch that open-backed cami for a cardigan, Live NY Now‘s going to go through some of the hottest and most beloved trends of summer 2011.

Free Spur-Of-The-Moment NYC Events

August 3rd, 2011

As usual, I hop off the subway, walk up the stairs and take a copy of the AMNY, just to skim through the news and ideally to solve the crossword puzzle. I read while I’m walking over to work (which is bad because New Yorkers tend not to look around them when they’re walking around). There was a small section in the newspaper that talked about the 14th Annual Teen Masters’ Bowling Championship. Back in the day, while I was still in high school, I was on my school’s bowling team for 2 years and on my local bowling center’s AMF Bowling League. Interested and being an avid bowler myself, I took a look at the article and wanted to attend it because a bowling lane in Grand Central Terminal is a pretty huge thing.

Chinatown Food Landmarks

August 2nd, 2011

Sunday morning, a friend unexpectedly called me to join her family for an early brunch in Chinatown.  I haven’t been to Chinatown much, especially by myself.  The streets are too confusing, and you never really know what the signs say since most of them are in Chinese.    Knowing my friend and her family, I knew I was in for a treat with very good authentic Chinese food, NOT some greasy fattening American style Chinese.

Cirque Du Soleil: Circus Arts and Street Entertainment

August 2nd, 2011

I’ve always wanted to go to a circus, even when I was a little wee child. I even used my stuffed animals to create my own circus. Lion tamers, tight-rope walkers, elephants, circus peanuts, they all entice me. After watching the movie and reading the book, Water for Elephants, about a college student joining a traveling circus, I wanted to attend one even more. I received an email about NYC events at the beginning of the summer about this show, Zarkana. I’ve heard of Cirque De Soleil many times, seen the posters all over the place, but never thought twice about seeing one of their performances. It was during a lunch break when two Zarkana performers caught my eye on 34th Street and handed me a coupon for discount tickets.  Read the rest of this entry »

East Coast vs. West Coast: Burger Joints (In N Out VS Shake Shack)

July 27th, 2011

In N Out Burger and Fries Shake Shack Burger, Fries, and Milkshake

I’ve been to the west coast and back and was able to try their infamous In N Out burger. While California consistently boasts to everyone that their In N Out burger is the best burger ever made, the East coast says so otherwise. Residing in New York City, Shake Shack first opened up its restaurant in Madison Square Park. So which burger joint takes number one on my list?

Surviving the NYC Heat Wave!

July 27th, 2011

While the whole country is feeling the effects of this ridiculously humid, hotter-than-norm summer, New Yorkers mos defff got the worst of it this past week.  The Great NYC Heat Wave of 2011 finally relented a couple days ago, after a huge downpour on Monday wiped out most of the smoggy humidity from the sky.  For basically the entire week before that though, not only was it seriously sweltering, but warnings against even going outside in regards to health and safety concerns were issued.  I received texts from many of my friends last Thursday at like 3 am, bitching about the power outages that the high temperatures were causing throughout the Tri-State area, and how they couldn’t sleep because it was so hot.  Like c’mon, how’s a girl supposed to look somewhat decent at the work the next day if she’s covered in sweat and has intense bags under her eyes like a sleep-deprived druggie?  You gotta help a sister out, Al Roker.

And for the time being, he has!  But while this week is substantially cooler than last, the summer’s still far from over and the city is bound to get a little feisty on us again.  Here are some tips for staying cool when the NYC summer is being a bitch.

To the Yankee Stadium

July 27th, 2011

After having lived in New York for four years, I finally went to go see a NY Yankees game last night. I have always heard of how amazing the stadium is and how crazy Yankees games can get, and yesterday I confirmed all those facts to be true.   Last night, the Yankees played the Seattle Mariners and won 4 to 1 with two home runs.  It was definitely a good first game to watch.
